# Custom domain & platform address

> Use a free name.havic.ch address right away, or connect your own domain with automatic DNS setup.

Every website is reachable from the start — and you can connect your own domain at any
time.

## Platform address: `name.havic.ch`

As soon as a website is live, it automatically gets an address of the form
**`name.havic.ch`**. The TLS certificate is issued automatically and on demand — there's
nothing to set up.

<Tip>
  The platform address is perfect for a first preview or a staging version before you
  connect a custom domain.
</Tip>

## Connect your own domain

Havic sets up the required **DNS records** automatically (write-through via the DNS
provider). Your domain then points to your website and the certificate is issued
automatically.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add the domain to the website">
    Open the website and add your domain under **Domains** (e.g. `example.ch`).
  </Step>

  <Step title="DNS is configured">
    Havic creates the required DNS records. If another provider manages your domain,
    Havic shows you the values to enter.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connection & certificate">
    Once the DNS records are active, Havic connects the domain and issues a TLS
    certificate automatically. The **Betriebsstatus** (operating status) changes to
    **Aktiv** (Active).
  </Step>
</Steps>
